ENTOV-HVM Mission and Policy

Bild
The Open E uropean Network for ENT erprise Inn OV ation in H igh V alue M anufacturing (ENTOV-HVM) is an inclusive interdisciplinary bottom-up open European knowledge alliance where experienced and young generations of researchers and innovators across existing, emergent and potential research-intensive spaces passionately share the purpose of enabling and increasing the number of breakthrough scientific developments in high value manufacturing leading to new concepts, services and products and thereby contributing to bridging the research and innovation divide and participation gaps in Europe and strengthening European research and innovation capacities at individual, (sub-) group, enterprise, regional, intra- and international level by: (a) significantly increasing the number of related scientific developments that are visible to and mature enough for successful consumption by existing innovation acceleration / transfer mechanisms at local, regional, national and transnation

Exploring the Fourth Innovation Web: The Commercialization Archetype

Bild
The final innovation web archetype of relevance is the “commercialization web”. The commercialization web archetype involves bringing the product or result to the market through production and distribution. It consists of tangible and intangible exchanges between the researcher and / or innovator, the intended beneficiaries, the research community, the practitioner community, the product packager, the commercializer and then "closes the circle" through exchanges between the commercializer and the beneficiary. As with the description of the research, socialization, and market validation webs only key intangible and tangible exchanges and dynamics are shown, whereby the web weaver continues to facilitate / serve the innovation web in order to support maturing it to those transition threshold maturity levels which are required for value generation. Once the market validation web has been transitioned to the commercialization web archetype, primarily by stabilizing its t

Exploring the Third Innovation Web: The Market Validation Archetype

Bild
The second innovation web archetype of relevance is the “market validation web”. The market validation web archetype is a web of relationships that evolves when the product or the result is clear, and the goal of the network is to test and validate market or beneficiary readiness. It logically builds on the results of efforts conducted by a previous community building web archetype. It essentially consists of tangible and intangible exchanges between the researcher(s) and / or innovator,(s), the intended beneficiaries, the research community, the practitioner community and the product packager(s). The research web and the socialization archetypes continue to “operate”. A video is at available at the bottom of this post. Once the socialization web has been transitioned to the market validation web archetype, primarily by stabilizing its transition threshold performance and populating the new roles of Buyers, Funders and Commercializers, a new sequence of transactions emerges whil

Exploring the Second Innovation Web: The Socialization (Community Building) Archetype

Bild
The second innovation web archetype of relevance is the “socialization web”, which is also called the “community” web. The socialization web archetype is web archetype is a web of relationships which evolves out of the research web archetype as the research and / or innovation crystalizes and begins reaching early stage practitioners / evangelists in organizations. It consists of tangible and intangible exchanges between the researchers and / or innovators, the users, marketeers and product packagers. The research web archetype continues to “operate”. Once the research web has been transitioned to the socialization web archetype, primarily by stabilizing its transition threshold performance and populating the new roles od Marketeer(s) and Product Packager, a new sequence of transactions emerges while the research web continues to “operate”. In a first step we see innovators and users sharing intangible stories with marketeers and product packagers about their experience and th

ENTOV-HVM High Level Timeline

Bild
This blog post is a draft response to “Section 4 Implementation / Section 4.1 Coherence and Effectiveness of Work Plan / Section 4.1.4 GANTT Diagram” in the technical annex of the planned COST 2019 Open Call Proposal Reference: OC-2019-1-23678 "Open European Network for Enterprise Innovation in High Value Manufacturing (ENTOV-HVM)". The image shows the high level plan which has also been circulated separately.   While the actual progress of ENTOV-HVM will be significantly influenced by emergent events, (lack of) success in grant submissions and marketing efforts a generic high level plan will serve as a baseline for managing progress against aspirations. Management Committee & Work Group Meetings will occur quarterly either virtually or blended in conjunction with training schools and joint research-industry workshop events (three day events at alternating proposer institutions). Public grant proposal submissions will occur quarterly and alternate between s

ENTOV-HVM Kick-Off Call

Bild
All – when I lived in the US I often went to the (quarter mile) drag races on Sundays. Really exciting were the starts when the Christmas tree lights turned green and the cars with already spinning wheels launched – amazing experience! This is what ENTOV-HVM is beginning to feel like as everyone is rearing to go, yet the lights are not green yet since we are working on fueling the tank (therefore getting funded J ) Thank you to all those who took part (Mor – Israel, Raminta – Lithuania, Mesam & Peter – Luxembourg, Paulo – Portugal and Taner – Turkey). Thank you also for those who tried to attend but could not make it after all (Pinar – Germany, Sait – Italy, Nuno – Portugal and Lynne – USA). For those of you who could not make it at all please rest assured there will be future meetings – in particular toward the end of July when we come together to discuss the final version of the proposal.   In the meantime there will be different meetings I will be sure to circulate in

Exploring the First Innovation Web: The Research Archetype

Bild
The first innovation web archetype of relevance is the “research web”. The research web archetype is a web of relationships with the primary focus on research and innovation exploration. It consists of tangible and intangible exchanges between innovators and users as shown in the figure and animated in the video at the end of the post.. The innovator is the originator of the “idea”. The user applies the “idea” to a challenge they face. Upon achieving the threshold values for key performance indicators the facilitated transition to the next web archetype called “Socialization” can be launched. This archetype evolves from the curiosity of innovators regarding particular challenges which become visible to them in the user community. It is this intangible curiosity which is declared to be the primary “trigger” for the process described since the user challenges are rarely (if ever) communicated directly to innovators, being more the result of a chaotic diffusion process. The int

What does a "Hop On Hop Off" Project Look Like?

Bild
As ENTOV-HVM slowly "takes off" one of the interesting questions is how do we design a "project" so that participants can "hop on hop off" as they are available? A typical project is defined by not only time and budget, but also by resources which seems to contradict allowing participants to freely come and go? The answer may well lie in the role based approach which states that in order to succeed a project needs a minimum number of roles which are populated by a minimum number of participants which may change (while the role remains stable). Image of a "hop on hop off" bus from London (see https://www.musement.com/de/london/london-hop-on-hop-off-bustouren-v/ ). So far the intent, however unclear remains how this maps into any legal and commercial agreements that will be required from stakeholders providing funding - for the "hop on hop off" participants this should not be an issue, but for the "bus driver"? No solut

ENTOV-HVM: Key Risks and Possible Treatments

Bild
This blog post is a draft response to “Section 4 Implementation / 4.1 Coherence and Effectiveness of the Work Plans / Section 4.1.3      Risk Analysis and Contingency Plans” in the technical annex of the planned COST 2019 Open Call Proposal Reference: OC-2019-1-23678 "Open European Network for Enterprise Innovation in High Value Manufacturing (ENTOV-HVM)". The image shows a life guard tower in Venice, California to exemplify the perspective that effective risk and uncertainty management are core to successful project execution (retrieved from http://www.towleroad.com/2017/10/rainbow-lifeguard-tower-2/). The following table is an excerpt from the ENTOV-HVM risk register which highlights the key (high) risks and / or possible issues to the proposed ENTOV-HVM actions and point to relevant probabilities, impact, including potential treatments.

ENTOV-HVM Working Groups - Yes We Can Do It!

Bild
This blog post is a draft response to “Section 4 Implementation / Section 4.1 Coherence and Effectiveness of Work Plan  / Section 4.1.1 Description of Working groups, Tasks and Activities” in the technical annex of the planned COST 2019 Open Call Proposal Reference: OC-2019-1-23678 "Open European Network for Enterprise Innovation in High Value Manufacturing (ENTOV-HVM)". The image shows a well-known productivity poster to exemplify the need for rolling up our sleeves to get this done  (retrieved from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We_Can_Do_It !). While the primary mechanism for ENTOV-HVM for meeting the challenge are training schools and short-term scientific missions (i.e. joint research-industry workshops and living labs), these can only succeed if the needed webs of relationships are created and nurtured as effectively as possible. For this purpose a multi-dimensional matrix of working groups will be formed based on the roles needed in the innovation proces

Our Dissemination Plan - Creating the Delta

Bild
This blog post is a draft response to “Section 3 Impact / Section 3.2 Measures to Maximize Impact  / Section 3.2.2 Plan for Dissemination and/or Exploitation and Dialogue with the General Public or Policy” in the technical annex of the planned COST 2019 Open Call Proposal Reference: OC-2019-1-23678 "Open European Network for Enterprise Innovation in High Value Manufacturing (ENTOV-HVM)". The image shows the Nile river delta to exemplify the concept of dissemination to wide audiences (retrieved from https://serc.carleton.edu/details/images/190113.html ). ENTOV-HVM will use a wide range of dissemination paths from the outset in order to not only share knowledge with the general public, but also to continuously grow the knowledge of network participants. Dissemination will furthermore serve the important goal of developing the critical pattern of relationships between participants which will enable performance of ENTOV-HVM as a whole. The first product of ENTOV-HV
