Sharpening ADSMIE – System Dynamics Model for Innovation Diffusion and Industry 4.0
Dear all – as many conversation continue, the focus of ADSMIE
is rapidly sharpening. There are two key developments you need to be aware of.
As we know ADSMIE is focused on exploring how to disruptively accelerate the
diffusion of innovations in advanced manufacturing from idea to market
saturation (therefore reaching the late adopters and laggards). The two key
developments are:
1. We are now narrowing our understanding of innovations to
technology and human factors related to Industry 4.0 -> see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Industry_4.0.
This means the sort of innovations we are examining are related to Industry 4.0
components such as mobile devices, IoT, blockchain, smart sensors etc. See the
relevant section on the Wikipedia page.
2. In order to describe the diffusion of Industry 4.0 innovations
we will start building a system dynamics model of the diffusion of innovation
curve (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diffusion_of_innovations).
The first model will be built using the simulation software Vensim (see www.vensim.com). Vensim provides a free version
for research called the Personal Learning Edition (PLE) at https://vensim.com/vensim-personal-learning-edition/
and indeed that already contains a simple free model we will start with. As our
efforts progress we will explore opportunities for using this to configure more
business relevant solution approaches such as www.vdmbee.com.
The project planning continues and the two developments will
now allow us to move forward even more rapidly – they also make the project
deliverables a lot clearer!
