WP 3 Conduct Case Studies (as Living Labs)
Dear all - this is a refined draft of the THIRD Erasmus+ Knowledge
Alliance Workpackage with a focus on industrial whole product lifecycles.
Comments appreciated as we work to refine and align with the potential
workpackage owner. Please note that the supporting workpackages are intended
for project participants either owning other workpackages or interested in
supporting workpackages only. The image perhaps exemplifies that we should see
the living labs as experimental tools and must focus heavily on observing and
listening. You may also notice that each living lab has a training day –
something we will be introducing at the January event https://open-european-innovation-network.blogspot.com/2019/08/save-date-first-network-event-wednesday.html.
If you are interested in a supporting workpackage please contact
oliver.schwabe@innovation-web.eu - you will be expected to contribute to
shaping this and your own workpackage.
Description
This preparation
and implementation workpackage conducts case studies in the form of living labs
based on the simulation created in workpackage 1 and the revised needs analysis
conducted I workpackage 2. The aim of the workpackage is to harden year 1
project results to a degree that enables a robust design phase in year 2 and
sets the foundation for workpackage 7 “Validate Research Findings (as
Experimental Innovation in Living Labs)” in year 3. The workpackage will
conduct a total of 12 living labs at each of the six participating
manufacturing companies and six participating higher education institutions,
whereby participation is opened to other interested parties in the project
network and the region where the effort is being conducted. Each living lab
will have a three day duration whereby the first day is focused on
stage-setting and training. The second day will conduct a living lab with
participation of stakeholders from all phases of the whole product lifecycle at
the manufacturing organization. The third day will debrief results from the
second day and introduce the concepts of experimental innovation (see
workpackage 7 “Validate Research Findings (as Experimental Innovation in Living
Labs)” and structured ideation (see workpackage 8 “Validate Research Findings
(as Experimental Innovation in Living Labs)”.
Tasks
The estimated
start date is month #6 of the project and the estimated end date is month 12 of
the project, although the team will continue to support other workpackages
during the complete duration of the project. All tasks will be made transparent
to the public as open access and public domain. The tasks of the workpackage
are:
- Finalize design guidelines for living labs provided by workpackage 2.
- Prepare three day living labs at six participating manufacturing organizations and six participating higher education institutions considering the (ongoing) work of workpackages 1 and 2.
- Conduct three day living labs at six participating manufacturing organizations and six participating higher education institutions.
- Create case studies for each of the living labs and combine these in a conference contribution.
- Provide input for finalizing workpackages 1 and 2.
- Provide input to workpackages 6, 7 and 8.
- Prepare and hand-over design guidelines for the living labs to be conducted in workpackage 3 “Conduct Case Studies (as Living Labs)”
Deliverables
The
deliverables are outcomes of the tasks and will be made available in the public
domain.
- Design principles for year 1 living labs.
- Detailed script for three day living labs at six participating manufacturing organizations and six participating higher education institutions.
- Three day living labs at six participating manufacturing organizations and six participating higher education institutions.
- Case studies for each of the living labs and combine these in a conference contribution.
- Input to workpackages 6,7 and 8.
- Conduct one hour monthly alignment calls with all project participants to inform of workpackage progress.
- Design principles for year 3 living labs used in workpackage 7.
Resourcing
This
workpackage will run for 6 consecutive months and will be primarily resourced
by two full time researchers. Six
supporting workpackages of 160 hours each support conducting the workpackage
and one funded Masters project is planned as further aid to workpackage
delivery.
